City Guide: Rome
La Tradizione
For a different kind of religious experience after the Vatican, visit this temple of gourmet goods.
Considered by most local epicures to be the best gourmet food store in all of Rome, La Tradizione has been selling top quality foodstuffs near the Vatican since 1980. Stocked to the ceiling with a selection that includes over 400 cheeses from all over Italy and the world, more than 300 cured meats and salamis (no fewer than 12 different varieties of prosciutto), and a mammoth array of breads, wines, fresh pasta, oils, vinegars, and prepared foods. This is truly paradise for cooks and eaters. The helpful staff will let you try before you buy and will happily share their extensive knowledge if you need a little help deciding. Trust us, it’s not so easy when basically you’ll want to buy the store.
