City Guide: Rome

By Maria Pasquale

Jerry Thomas Project

If there's one place to have a cocktail in Rome, it's this underground speakeasy.

Revolutionizing the Rome bar scene when it was founded back in 2010, the Jerry Thomas Project, named for America’s most famous bartending pioneer, brought quality cocktails, expert mixology and a new drinking culture to the city. But from day its doors opened, getting in wasn’t easy. To gain access you need to know the password (which changes frequently and is hidden on their website) and when you do make it to the bar make sure you adhere to the rules–don’t ask for vodka! With fabulous prohibition-era surroundings, including bar staff in typical ’20s garb, Jerry Thomas currently ranks as one of the 50 Best Bars in the World.
