City Guide: Rome
I Porchettoni di Pigneto
Juicy porchetta and hearty pastas in a casual setting.
Although they recently changed name to “Trattoria Pigneto,” this basic eatery will always be better known as “I Porchettoni” and indeed, the house special is still the porchetta; slow-roasted pork, heavily salted, rolled with garlic, herbs and fragrant with rosemary and which sits proudly in the window.
During the day swing by to grab a sandwich filled with the aromatic meat or alternatively perch on one of the long wooden benches and order a selection of dishes (served on plastic plates) from the menu. Generous bowls of pasta and gnocchi, cheeses, salami and jugs of local wine are the order of the day, all served with a good dose of Roman attitude from owner Gianluca and his team.
