City Guide: New York
Gramercy Tavern
The beloved, warm and welcoming Gramercy Tavern manages to be all things to all folks.
Gramercy Tavern is that rare restaurant that manages to be all things to all folks. I’m not at all exaggerating. You can walk in and dine on a pizzette or a burger in the Tavern room, rustic and elegant—a warm fire from the hearth, a cold cocktail shaken from fresh juices and locally made bitters. Or you might come for a seriously special night and commit to the main dining room, where you can dig into chef Michael Anthony’s tasting menu, crafted from a stash of ingredients hauled over from the Union Square Greenmarket just down the street. What’s certain is you will feel pampered and relaxed, and woozy with the joys of thoughtful food and beautiful wine. You may just think, oh, what a wonderful world.
