City Guide: Rome
Freni e Frizione
Hang with the locals at this lively neighborhood bar with strong cocktails.
With a name that translates to ‘Brakes and Clutches’ it is no surprise to learn that Freni e Frizione is housed in a former mechanic’s garage. The spacious, industrial-style bar in the heart of Trastevere is decorated with vintage and recycled furniture, modern art and glitzy chandeliers giving it a trendy, modern vibe. There is a great drinks list as well as an abundant daily aperitivo buffet table groaning with pastas, cous cous, vegetables and rice dishes–unlimited visits to which are included in the price of a drink. Show up at sun down when the cool kids hang out in the piazza in front of the bar, sipping cocktails and lining their stomachs.
