City Guide: Mexico City

Churrería El Moro

A Mexico City institution, this churros spot has been operating since 1935

This Mexico City churros-and-chocolate chain now has branches all over the city, but the original location, in the Centro, is the best place to see the magic unfold. Peek through the large front windows — or stand at the counter — to watch workers trace concentric circles of dough into the hot, sizzling oil. The chocolate is secondary to the churro, but it still ain’t bad. A recent menu addition is the Consuelo, churro sandwich stuffed with ice cream. Bonus: the Centro location, a bustling spot filled with a diverse mix of families, couples, and young people, is open 24 hours.
